910 - 948 PM (38 minutes)
Game Simulation Conditioning Drill Done in 34.5 minutes

Total: 38 Minutes

1 Game-simulation Conditioning Drill done; speed up 05% compared to yesterday.

At the Waltham Y from 910-949 for 38 minutes, I did the Game-Simulation Fitness Drill (according to specs in effect as of April 8 2012) once, in 34 minutes & 30 seconds (34.5 minutes), wearing my old gray and orange Adidas-brand no-model-name running shoes.

I have put up online "April 2012 Conditioning Drill Stats". Stats on this page are correct to the best of my knowledge, and double-checked.

Today I did one full game-simulation conditioning drill. I did 10 reps of SW, 3 reps of R, 10 reps of the 180 degree turns subdrill, 8 reps of D, & finally 8 reps of E.

The number of reps for each subdrill and the order of the subdrills was the same as yesterday April 12. The the overall speed today was up 05% compared to yesterday.

If I continue to progress at 5% per day, in two weeks, I will be in twice as fit as I am now.

Before the game, Brazilian Jose started talking to me. He said that he has a Brazilian friend who is a retired soccer player who is 48 years old, named Mario Sergio, who used to play with Pele on the same team Pele played on, and who visits Jose at Jose's home. Jose invited me to come visit with him when Mario Sergio is visiting. Jose said soccer players cannot continue professionally after they reach the age of 35.

I said to Jose, that he may believe that, but nobody thinks that I am in a hopeless situation with regards to the challenge of becoming a pro, despite my age. I said that maybe Brazilians are not able to play once they reach the age of 35, but I'm not a Brazilian. But I accepted his offer to have me visit.

When I looked up Mario Sergio on the internet, I found a wikipedia article that said that Mr. Sergio, is now 62 years old, not 48 as Jose had said. According to the article, Mario Sergio was a midfielder on the Brazil team from 1981-1985, whereas Pele was a forward on the Brazil team from 1957-1971.

Above and beyond the age controversy: imagine two different players, Edison & Jose. It could be, that Jose is great at beating scrub defenders but hopeless when it comes to beating pros, whereas Edison is not as good at beating scrubs as Jose, but good at beating pro defenders.

It could be, that Jose performs better than Edison when Jose or Edison is playing on a team composed of scrubs, while at the same time, Edison contributes much more to the team when he is surrounded by top pros, compared to how much Jose contributes to the team when he is surrounded by top pros.

It could be that Jose is better than Edison on bumpy uneven, grassy field, whereas Edison is better than Jose when the field is of good quality.

It could be that an unfit Jose is better than an unfit Edison, whereas a fit Edison is better than a fit Jose.

It could be, that Jose is better at soccer on a basketball court, whereas Edison is better at soccer on a full sized field.

It could be, that Jose is the better defender when defending against scrubs, whereas Edison is the better defender defending against quality players.

After the game in the locker room I was chatting with Anush from India about Bombay. Anush told me that the cost of living and legal situation in India was not as bad as I thought it was. I asked him when I should visit Bombay, where I was born, and he said, "now!".

As I was talking to Anush, at one point his facial expression and the angle at which he held his head was such that for a moment he looked extremely intelligent. I told him such was how it seemed.

Then I told Anush, about how according to the online "Urban Dictionary", the name "Abhijit", is a slang term for "the sexiest Indian guy". After I told Anush this, Anush's facial expression and demeanor changed, from clear skies, to monsoon storms. He looked angry. He said, "but I am not Abhijit!". I was surprised as I had just a couple of minutes previously, noticed how mature and intelligent he can sometimes look.

Game Simulation Conditioning Drill Done in 36.9 minutes

Total: 42 Minutes

1 Game-simulation Conditioning Drill done; speed down 12% compared to yesterday.

At the Waltham Y from 709-751 for 38 minutes, I did the Game-Simulation Fitness Drill (according to specs in effect as of April 8 2012) once, in 36 minutes & 53 seconds (36.9 minutes), wearing my outdoor running shoes.

The number of reps for each subdrill and the order of the subdrills was the same as April 12. The the overall speed today was down 6.5% compared to yesterday.

Yesterday wearing the orange and grey adidas brand shoes that have no model-name, I was slipping alot at the corners when running the 180, the D, and the C. I have not experienced such slippiness wearing the Adidas Predator Indoor soccer shoes, or the heavy shoes designed for running outdoors I wore today.

I woke from a nap at 550PM. Then I was in a big rush to be able to get to the gym and start the running by 712 PM. 80 minutes from waking up to starting the run, resulted in everything being rushed, in terms of finding clothes, putting on clothes, having coffee, packing the gym bag, going to the bathroom. I find it takes about 30 minutes from the time I leave my place to the time I start practicing at the Waltham Y. 50 minutes between waking up and leaving for the Y was too little time in terms of getting ready to go, everything was too rushed, I was half-asleep when I started the run.

I was having a dream when I woke with a start to rush off to the Y. In the dream: I was a Harvard student again. I had lots of little plastic ID and credit cards, but I could not find the card I needed in order to eat at the dining hall, and I was very hungry. Also, in the dream, it was about two-thirds of the way through the semester, yet I had not done even one hour of homework, I knew I was behind, and that I would have to do nothing but study for the rest of the semester if I was going to get good grades. But I did not feel like just studying for the rest of the semester.

Prior to the game Anthony Perez was strutting through the hallway on his way to the locker room, wearing tight jeans and a tight t-shirt. He told me that Jose said that I said that Anthony was feminine; he was annoyed. I felt angry that Jose should have caused this incident. I tried to correct the misinformation. What I was trying to say was: men have been too macho; Anthony by way of his un-macho behavior, in contrast to the macho conduct of others, seemed almost feminine; I don't want gay friends, I want normal friends; I appreciate and like Anthony for being un-macho with me.

In the locker room I said to them, can this misinterpretation be forgiven and forgotten? They did'nt say anything, though Jose had corrected the misinfo he gave Anthony. Seemed they don't want to forgive and forget so that they can have something to talk about with me.

705 - 744 PM (39 minutes)
Game Simulation Conditioning Drill Done in 31.6 minutes

Total: 39 Minutes

1 Game-simulation Conditioning Drill done; speed up 49% compared to one week ago.

While at the Waltham Y from 705-744 for 39 minutes in total, I did the Game-Simulation Fitness Drill (according to specs in effect as of April 8 2012) once, in 31 minutes & 35 seconds (31.6 minutes), wearing my Under-Armour brand 'OCE' model shoes.

The number of reps for each subdrill and the order of the subdrills was the same as yesterday. The overall speed today was up 16.8% compared to yesterday.

Today I did not experience any slipping at the corners, wearing my Under-Armour brand OCE model shoes. I suspect that the reason I was slipping at the corners on Friday April 14 while wearing the gray and orange no-name shoes, was that there had been lots of activity on the court all day and it had not been swept.

I woke from a nap at approx 430PM, thus I had more time to wake up and get ready for the run compared to yesterday.

Sunday 4/8 a week ago, the number of repetitions done for each subdrill, and the order of the subdrills, was the same as today, one week later, Sunday 4/15. The time taken to complete the subdrills was 47 minutes on 4/8, but only 31.6 minutes today. Therefore the overall speed was up 49% today compared to one week ago.

Continuing at an improvement rate of 49% per week: five weeks from now, I will be ten times as fit (in terms of doing this kind of run) as I was on Sunday 4/8 one week ago.

I realize that the times on these runs could be faster if I slowed down the runs and speeded up the walks, so that I was moving at a more even speed. However such would defeat the purpose of this running drill, which is to simulate game conditions wherein one alternates between intense sprinting and leisurely walking.

Game Simulation Conditioning Drill Done in 31.9 minutes

Total: 45 Minutes

1 Game-simulation Conditioning Drill done; speed down 1% compared to Sunday two days ago.

While at the Oak Sq Y Group Exercise Studio (air-conditioned) from 930-1015 for 45 minutes in total, I did the Game-Simulation Fitness Drill (according to specs in effect as of April 8 2012) once, in 31 minutes & 52 seconds (31.9 minutes), wearing my orange & gray Adidas brand no-name model shoes.

The number of reps for each subdrill and the order of the subdrills was the same as yesterday. The overall speed today was down 1.0% compared to yesterday.

Today I did not experience any slipping at the corners, wearing my gray & orange no-name shoes. I suspect that the reason I was slipping at the corners on Friday April 14 while wearing the gray and orange no-name shoes, was that there had been lots of activity on the court all day and it had not been swept.

I had expected the time to be much worse this evening, given the way I was feeling before I started the run.

The sub-times for the subdrills, were faster today than they were day before yesterday, however, the overall time was slower. This means that today I was taking more time off as rest between subdrills.

Game Simulation Conditioning Drill Done in 29.35 minutes

Total: 45 Minutes

1 Game-simulation Conditioning Drill done; speed up 9% compared to yesterday

While at the Oak Sq Y Group Exercise Studio (air-conditioned) from 930-1015 for 45 minutes in total, I did the Game-Simulation Fitness Drill (according to specs in effect as of April 8 2012) once, in 29 minutes & 21 seconds (29.35 minutes), wearing my orange & gray Adidas brand no-name model shoes.

In total this took me 29.3 minutes.

The number of reps for each subdrill and the order of the subdrills was the same as yesterday. The overall speed today was up 8.7% compared to yesterday.

Today again I did not experience any slipping at the corners, wearing my gray & orange no-name shoes.

Before the run I expected the time to be better this evening, given the way I was feeling before I started the run. Subjectively speaking, based on feelings I had before the run yesterday and the run today, the runs were not as different in terms of time as I felt they would be based on how I felt before each run.

Oak Sq Y Group Exercise Studio
930 - 1015 PM (45 minutes)
Game Simulation Conditioning Drill Done in 28.3 minutes

Total: 45 Minutes

1 Game-simulation Conditioning Drill done; speed up 4% compared to yesterday

While at the Oak Sq Y Group Exercise Studio (air-conditioned) from 930-1015 for 45 minutes in total, I did the Game-Simulation Fitness Drill (according to specs in effect as of April 8 2012) once, in 28 minutes & 20 seconds (28.3 minutes), wearing my orange & gray Adidas brand no-name model shoes.

The number of reps for each subdrill and the order of the subdrills was the same as yesterday. The overall speed today was up 3.8% compared to yesterday.

Today again I did not experience any slipping at the corners, wearing my gray & orange no-name shoes.

86% of the improvement in overall speed today, was due to reduced walking rest time between subdrills.

Today I caught an error in a few of the log-posts of the previous week. These log-posts had contained a paragraph running as follows:

"Today I did one full game-simulation conditioning drill. I did 10 reps of SW, 3 reps of R, 10 reps of the 180 degree turns subdrill, 8 reps of D, & finally 8 reps of E. In total this took me [number X] minutes."

I found that the number X in the above paragraph was often incorrect and inconsistent with the number given in the Conditioning Drill Stats table, and the number given elsewhere in the log entry. These errors have been corrected. They were caused by copy & paste processes combined with lack of rigour in proofreading.
