2010 Basketball Shooting Stats for David Virgil Hobbs
 
The data in this table covers activities that described are described in greater detal, in text, in my sports log.

Understanding the table: Numbers in the '8' column represent shots taken from 8 feet, numbers in the '15' column represent shots taken from 15 feet, etc.  " Start:24' " means the dribble-runs were started 24 feet from the basket, " Start:36' " means they were started 36 feet from the basket, etc. " NOEMPHASIS" means no particular part of the body was emphasized during the shot. " WRIST" means the use of the wrist was emphasized during the shots.  " ELBOW" means the use of the elbow was emphasized during the shots. LHR= left handed shots aiming for the ring; RHR=right-handed shots aiming for the ring; LHBB=left-handed shots aiming for the backboard; RHBB= right-handed shots aiming for the backboard.  DT=15' means the distance from the basket at shot-time was 15 feet less than the distance from the basket at the start of the run. Percentage figures in parentheses= what percentage would have been if shots that almost went in had gone in. Listed in chrono order of shooting, example: RHR after LHR means, the left-handed aiming for the ring 20 shot segment was shot and next the right-handed aiming for the ring 20 shot segment was shot. GHCOLHS=Guide Hand Completely off ball during Left-handed Shots.  Arc+ = attempted to put significantly more arc on the ball compared to what had usually been the case prior to Nov 22 2010. BMF= body moved forwards during jump during jump-shot. GHO= Guide Hand off Ball both left & right handed shots. OWU = ball shot while body moving upwards during jump. Arc+ = shots shot with intent to put extra arc on the ball. Slowdown= the speed of the dribble-run prior to the shot, and the shot-process, both slowed down. Unless mentioned otherwise, the dribble-run prior to the shot and the shot-process are both executed at near max speed. Unscored: for example, Unscored: LHR 7/21-mins means, shooting left-handed aiming for the ring, 7 goals were scored in 21 minutes.

Monday March 14, 2011

Now begins a tethered-balloon-marked 24'-distance shots phase, involving: all the shots shot with a tethered balloon in place next to the shot line of trajectory; the tethered balloon marking an apex of arc 15' high, and 14.8' from the shot-release point; shots taken with both left hand (LH) & right hand (RH); one third of the shots shot in the normal fashion (N); one third of the shots taken with the non-shooting guide hand completely off the ball from the starting dribble to the release of the shot (GHO); &, one third of the shots taken with the Guide hand touching the ball immediately before the shot-release time(IB). All the shots in this phase aim for the ring, not the backboard. On all the shots an attempt is made to achieve an arc-apex of 15' on the shot.

In the process of struggling with the 15' arc-apex, I developed the habit of bringing the foot on the shooting hand side up, pausing, and then shooting. Thus the need for the FMIBS tag. FMIBS= foot moves immediately before shot. For me personally and also for the best shooters, habitually, the foot on the shooting hand side moves up to be approx even with the other foot immediately before the shot; there is no pause between this foot movement and the shot. Segments tagged FMIBS are segments in which a conscious effort is made to move the foot up immediately before the shot.
