Understanding the stats table below: Stats are for me, David Virgil Hobbs. R2/L2 Bod Pos: Whether the body was in an upright, medium or crouched position on the second kick of the run. L1R1 Type: Whether I emphasized leg-power or body-power on the first kick of the runs. L means leg power emphasized; B=body power emphasized on first kick. Style: AF1 means--during the kicks there is a deliberate attempt to involve all parts of the body in the kick. Good Runs: total number of successful or 'good' runs during practice segment. A successful/good run involves: ball kept off ground from first to last touch; prescribed pattern of ball/footwork movement approximately adhered to. Minutes: How many minutes it took to achieve the number of successful/good runs recorded. This does not count time lost due to interruptions etc. Good Runs/Minute: The number of good runs divided by the number of minutes. Pattern: The name of the pattern that was run during the segment, & a graphic of the pattern run during the segment.

EARPLUG in right ear only. Quality good; speed fast. Woke up approx 5 hours prior to start practice. Consumed only 12 oz double-strength green tea + coconut palm sugar + half & half (all organic), and 12 oz apple organic not-from-concentrate apple juice approx 45 mins before start practice. I counted off from successful run #1 to #30 twice instead of counting from #1 to #60. This was the second segment during which I counted number of failed attempts.
The 2.00/minute score is a new personal record for me for 1st segment of practice doing the drill done this segment. 2.00 per minute is 30% better than my previous personal record for first segment of practice, which was set 4 days ago. |

EARPLUG in right ear only. Quality good; speed fast. A significant number of these runs were short (total distance travelled measured odometer style approx 12'), fast, well-angled, well-formed. Previously I'd noted that this non-AF1 style seemed better than AF1 & AF1+ for long (longer than 22' measured odometer-style) fast well-formed sharply-angled runs. Thus it seems, that the non-AF1 style, excels the other styles in terms of zbility to travel a wide range of distances, from short to long, on the kicks.

Again, a significant number of these runs were short (total distance travelled measured odometer style approx 12'), fast, well-angled, well-formed runs. Seems that counting the number of failed attempts, results in an increase in the number of short runs. These short runs involved ball apexes of mid-shin height.

EARPLUGS in both ears. Quality good; speed very fast (the very fast runs involved ball apexes of ankle height to mid-shin height). Yet again, the number of short runs (approx 12' total distance measured odometer style) was high compared to when I was not keeping track of failed attempts. From a point where there had been 7 successful runs & 3 failures, to a point where there had been 51 successes & 6 failures, a successes/attempts percentage of 94% was achieved.
Woke up approx 4.5 hours prior to start segment. Consumed approx 12 oz double-strength green tea w/ half & half & coconut palm sugar, & 8 oz mango nectar approx 1.5 hours prior to start of practice. Immediately before practice started, drank some water & ate 4/5th of a slice of multigrain bread. During practice, chewed two pieces 4 mg nicotine gum. The 2.07/minute score is a new personal record for me for 1st segment of practice doing the drill done this segment. This new record is 3.5% better than the previous such record set one day ago, yesterday, May 7. |

For the first time since starting doing the drill done today or its reverse (P6.1-5t-NS or P6.1-5t-reverse-NS), I allowed myself a warmup: 300 yards jogged slowly (ended 5 minutes before start of scored segment), & 60 yards jogged slowly with feet flicking outwards on each step (ended 3 minutes before start of scored segment). 5/16 a Dream |
Some time between 5/13 & 5/16 I had a dream. In the dream I was standing outside a door, with a man who was a little taller than me and thin, this man was white and black-haired, clean-shaven, he looked like he might have been Spanish or Latin-American. This man wore a suit and a tie. He was in terms of his personality, like a 'Batman' (comic-book super-hero). I was dressed like a Spaniard/Latin American: black cowboy-type hat, black jacket, black shirt, fairly tight black pants, with some golden or silver frill on the clothes (after researching the matter, I discovered that in the dream I looked like 'Zorro' of the old-time movies). I could tell I was thinner than I now am. I was one on the two greatest players of all-time; the other one was Pele. Me and Pele were some kind of 'dynamic duo'.
I think through my dreams seeking to find clues applicable to real life. The clue in this dream seems to be that if I can lose about 20 lbs in body-weight, such would go a long way in terms of helping me deal with the problem of getting tired during games. I've lifted up 25 pound dumbells in the weights room many times. 25 lbs of extra weight is alot of weight to be carrying around all the time. I guess a problem is that when I was younger there were years during which I was sort of scorned for being thin, & now (at 5'10" 195 lbs without clothes) I enjoy being admired for being stocky without being fat. |

Whereas on 5/11, I did very well on the first segment of the day (employing the AF1+ method) despite not having practiced the previous two days, today, I did not do well on the first segment of the day (employing the AF1 method), after not having practiced for two days. This segment: the successes/attempts percentage was a new personal record; the successful runs per minute rate was high; the quality of the runs was the best ever; the speed was as good as it has ever been. About 3 hours before the start of this segment I consumed: 3 pieces organic multi-grain toast with 'olivio' butter-spread & blueberry jam; mango & tangerine juice; double-strength green tea w/ half 'n half & coconut palm sugar (all organic); 1 T wheat germ oil; 1 T cod liver oil; potassium, B-vitamin, & mineral pills. 5/17 General Notes re practices today |
5/16 I reported that I weigh 191 lbs at 5'10" height. Today I weight myself and found that over a few months I have gained some weight and now weigh 195 lbs without clothes; so I corrected the 5/16 entry to 195 lbs. Approx 4 hours before the start of practice I consumed: a piece of toast, two fried eggs, 4 pieces of bacon, tangerine juice, and a little cheese with salsa-picante sauce. Then about 1 hour before the start of the practice I had the usual 12 oz double-strength green tea with coconut palm-sugar & half n half, & approx 8 oz tangerine juice. When I started the practice I had been awake for approx 15 hours, not counting a 2 hour nap that ended 6 hours prior to the start of practice. After the practice Vinnie who works at the Y told me that I was "very dedicated"; he noted that I work out at the Y every day.

Actually I realized as the segment wore on that the non-AF1 method is a leg-force AND ankle-force combination method involving relatively minimal use of the body. At the start of the practice this white man who had his little boy with him told me he was concerned about getting in my way; he said to me, 'you're good'.

EARPLUGS IN BOTH EARS TODAY. DID SIX SEGMENTS TODAY. Woke up today at approx 3 AM. Had slice of pizza & 8oz green-tea/coconut-palm-sugar/half -'n-half at approx 4 AM. Had 12 oz of same green tea mix at 535 AM.
Today after finishing practice at 5:10 PM I showered, bought char-grilled steak tips & a char-grilled cheeseburger at Subway (not the Subways Chain sub shop the other one), went home, had a little white-colored Tequila to spur the appetite, & ate. Then I fell asleep from approx 7:30 PM to 530 AM, waking up only twice all night. It was the best night of sleep I have had in a long time; I attribute the good sleep to having done six segments each containing 60 successful P6.1-5t-NS runs during the day. The typical run today was 20 feet in length from the first kick to the last touch; the long runs were generally about 26 feet in length; there were a few that were 30 feet in length (the ball does not touch the ground between the first kick and the 5th kick). Today I posted a review of the previous month of soccer practice up on my Soccer Training Log Page 19. |

At Oak Square Y today. EARPLUGS IN BOTH EARS TODAY. DID 3 SEGMENTS TODAY. Woke up today at approx 4 AM. Had 2 pieces toast, 2 fried eggs, 10 oz tangerine juice, 20 oz green-tea/coconut-palm-sugar/halfnhalf from 5 AM to 630 AM.
Despite not exercising yesterday, had normal length sleep at approx normal time night after yesterday. This I suspect was due to continuing effect of 6 segments done day before yesterday. The best segment today was the first, utilizing the AF1 method. The typical run today was approx 20 feet in length from the first kick to the last touch; there were about a dozen long (approx 26 feet in length), ultra-fast, perfectly/sharply angled runs (the ball does not touch the ground between the first kick and the 5th kick). |

There were 4 missed attempts: these occurred after successful runs #5 , #10, #18, & #31. During this segment, I mentally noted that the AF1+ method employed this segment, produces useful skills; but it is disadvantaged compared to AF1, in that AF1+ requires that an attempt be made to start the foot to the inside of the ball on every kick. Overall the previous segment was better, but this segment featured spectacular, long (up to 26'), sharply angled, very fast runs. Seemed the sticky floor favors the AF1 method more than it favors the AF1+ method.

5/22 General Notes re practices today |
At Waltham Y. EARPLUGS IN BOTH EARS. Two segments done today. Woke up today at approx 8:30 AM, after having had approx 8 hours sleep. Had 2 pieces toast, 1 fried egg, 12 oz mango/tangerine juice, 12 oz white-tea/coconut-palm-sugar/halfnhalf at approx 10:30 AM. Consumed 20 oz more of same white-tea mix from 1130 AM to 5:00 PM. Watched battle scene video clips & studied current events on internet during day prior to the soccer practice.
The best segment today was the 2nd, utilizing the AF1+ method; the inferior segment was the 1st, utilizing the non-AF1 method. The performance & score were inferior compared to yesterday. Possible suspects: green tea replaced with white tea; long 9 hour interval between waking up in morning & start of practice; mental depression due to being back at Waltham Y after Oak Square Y yesterday; repeated attempts to achieve extreme speed, sharpness of turn, & distance; studying of depressing & annoying current events developments on internet prior to start of practice. I noted that a segment should have one or more officially declared primary goals. Examples of such: a high successes/attempts percentage; high speed; good directional quality; long distances between kicks. Up till now my official but undeclared primary goal on all the segments for which the successes/attempts percentage were counted has been to achieve a high successes/attempts percentage. The typical run today was approx 20 feet in length from the first kick to the last touch; the long runs were approx 26 feet in length from the first touch to the last 5th touch (the ball does not touch the ground between the first kick and the 5th kick). |

There were 6 missed attempts: these occurred after successful runs #25, #32, #36, #37, & #51, #54.
For the first time I noted why the missed attempts failed: mind distracted by effect of failure on score; atttempt @ hi-speed->ball too low->failure; body too close to ball; mind to focused on observation so as to be ale to report cause of error. The speed this segment seemed impaired due to a relatively long interval between the first kick and the second kick. I suspect that this is due to the upright position of the body when non-AF1 is the method. This upright position of the body when the non-AF1 method is utilized, results in the ball being at a lower altitude when the 2nd kick of the run is made. |

At Oak Square Y. EARPLUG in left ear only. Two segments done today. Woke up today at approx 8:30 AM, after having had approx 9 hours sleep. Had approx 30 oz white-tea/coconut-palm-sugar/halfnhalf from approx 9:30-11:30 AM. At noon-time, ate 1/2 Whole Foods 'M&M' Panini sandwich. Drank bottle of 'Function' brand 'Strawberry/Guava Alternative Energy Drink' from noon to 12:30 PM.
The best segment today was the 1st, utilizing the AF1+ method; the inferior segment was the 2nd, utilizing the AF1 method. We've heard of 'grade inflation' in academia, wherein a given quality of work gets better and better grades with the passage of time. The gradual improvement in quality & speed of runs, is leading to danger of grade-deflation (as standards grow ever higher), & making it difficult to accurately describe quality & speed in a given segment. I felt 'under-the-weather' today, had a slight cough & a slightly runny nose, felt a little tired, but still I succeeded during the 1st segment, producing what I estimate to be the best performance ever doing the P6.1-5t-NS drill. I noted that I must resolve confusion re whether during AF1 segments, the foot starting to the inside of the ball is: not allowed; allowed; or minimized (AF1+ involves attempting to start the foot to the inside of the ball on every kick). So far during AF1 segments, the foot starting to the inside of the ball has been minimized, & such it shall continue to be unless noted otherwise. Same for segments utilizing the 'no-AF1' method. Last night I had a dream about these soccer drills. In the dream, the performance during each runs was not recorded by words, but by characters such as ";;;" and "&&&". These characters represented everything that happened during a given run. In the dream I was comparing various runs to each other by using the characters that described each run. |

Quality of first 10 succesful runs: very good to excellent; speed of first 10 successful runs: very fast+. Overall quality of successful runs: excellent; overall speed of succesful runs: very fast+. There were zero missed attempts (literally speaking there were a couple of missed attempts, but both of these were caused by poor quality first kicks, hence they were not counted as missed attempts).
This segment combined: 100% successful-runs/attempts rate; 'excellent' run quality (best ever segment in terms of run-quality rating); very-fast+ speed rating, no other segment has ever been given a faster speed rating. The noisiness in the gym did not bother me. There were about 9 long (approx 24') very fast+, sharply angled runs. |

Did P6.1-5T-Reverse-NS instead of the usual P6.1-5T-NS today.
At Waltham Y. EARPLUGS in both ears. Two segments done today. Woke up today at approx 8:30 AM, after having had approx 8 hours sleep. Had approx 24 oz white-tea/coconut-palm-sugar/halfnhalf & approx 16 oz home-made watermelon juice mixed with tangerine juice, from approx 9:30 AM-1:00 PM. Ate two pieces multi-grain toast with 'Olivia' butter spread at approx 9:30 AM. The best segment today was the 2nd, utilizing the AF1 method; this second segment was the best segment ever doing the P6.1-5T-Reverse-NS/ P6.1-5T-NS drills--during the segment I was like an angelic super-hero. The inferior segment was the 1st, utilizing the no-AF1 method. But today such comparison of the segments done during the day is not so significant, because today was the first day in a long time, which involved performance of the P6.1-5T-Reverse-NS drill. After today's practice, it seemed to me that I had strategically erred by delaying too long before starting to practice the P6.1-5T-Reverse-NS drill practiced today. The P6.1-5T-Reverse-NS emphasizes the left foot and I am left-footed. The P6.1-5T-NS which I've been doing up till today, emphasizes the right foot. The typical run today was approx 20 feet in length from the first kick to the last touch; there were about (I did not keep count) two dozen long runs were approx 24 feet in length from the first touch to the last 5th touch (the ball does not touch the ground between the first kick and the 5th kick). |

The goals of this segment: achieve a high number of successful runs per hour; achieve a high successes/attempts percentage.
Successes/attempts rate on first 10 attempts: 30% (there was one bad first kick during the first 10 attempts); Quality of first 10 successful runs: very good; speed of first 10 successful runs: very fast. Overall quality of successful runs: very good to excellent; overall speed of succesful runs: very fast to very fast+. There were 22 missed attempts. I felt tired; today was the first hot day in a while weather-wise. With this P6.1-5T-Reverse-NS drill done today, the left foot is used on two turning kicks, the 2nd & the 4th; thus I had a chance to observe left-foot performance on turns more this segment. My left foot produced excellent performance on these turns. When turning with the left foot, I utilized minimal ankle-force; I used leg & body force combined with the foot being tilted at the appropriate angle. By way of comparison, doing the P6.1-5t-NS which I've been doing up till today, which involves two right-footed turns, I've been using the power of the right ankle on the turns, flicking the right foot during the kicks; & I've been in doubt re how much of such ankle-force should be applied. Observing the left-foot technique while I perform the P6.1-5T-Reverse-NS done today, should help me to resolve such doubts. During this segment, the typical run covered 19' from the first kick to the 5th kick; there were about 8 long runs that covered on average about 22' from the first kick to the 5th kick. Whereas during the P6.1-5t-NS drill I had been doing up until yesterday, the first kick of the run is done with the left foot (I'm left-footed), during the during the P6.1-5T-Reverse-NS drill done today, the first kick of the run is done with the right foot. During this segment there were 5 bad kicks on the first kick of the runs. The failures that resulted from these bad kicks were not counted as attempts. |

The original goals of this segment: achieve a high number of successful runs per hour; achieve a high successes/attempts percentage. During the second half of the segment, since the runs were so fast and of such high quality, the goals changed to: achieve a high number of successful runs per hour; achieve a high successes/attempts percentage; AND ALSO achieve high speed and high quality.
Successes/attempts rate on first 10 attempts: 80%(there were 2 bad first kicks during the first 10 attempts); Quality of first 10 successful runs: very good to excellent; speed of first 10 successful runs: very fast to very fast+. Overall quality of successful runs: excellent+ (first segment ever to be awarded the excellent+ rating); overall speed of succesful runs: very fast++ (first segment to be awarded the very fast++ speed rating). There were 10 missed attempts. This segment I was like superman, reason being, I'm left-footed. The half dozen 6th graders who were in my half of the gym towards the end of this segment, and their young white adult female counselor, seemed oblivious to the superman amongst them. The left-footed kicks this segment involved minimal ankle-force, the force and direction during the left-footed kicks were supplied by the leg and the body, & the angle at which the foot was held. This ankle-force minimization naturally utilized on the left-footed kicks, influenced the right foot to behave similarly. During this segment, the typical run covered 20' from the first kick to the 5th kick; there were about 15 long runs that covered on average about 24' from the first kick to the 5th kick. During this segment there were 7 bad kicks on the first kick of the runs. |

At Oak Square Y. EARPLUGS in both ears. Two segments done today. Woke up today at approx 8:30 AM, after having had approx 8 hours sleep. Had approx 24 oz white-tea/coconut-palm-sugar/halfnhalf from approx 9:00 AM-10:30 AM. Ate two pieces multi-grain toast with 'Olivia' butter spread 1 T wheat germ oil, 1 T cod liver oil, & 2 balls of 'Kala Jamun' Asian-Indian desert at approx 10:15 AM. The lack of fruit juice in the morning seemed to result in fatigue; the oils seemed to result in slight stomach-nausea. For the first time in memory, I implemented the same method (AF1+) during two segments in a row. The lack of competence on the third kick of the runs using the right foot seemed very serious during the first segment, but during the second segment this incompetence had mostly disappeared. The typical run today was approx 21 feet in length from the first kick to the last touch; there were some long runs that were generally approx 24 feet in length from the first touch to the last 5th touch (the ball does not touch the ground between the first kick and the 5th kick). An East Asian young man cleverly noticed that I had reversed the cones so as to produce a pattern that was the reverse of the pattern laid out by the cones up till yesterday. He saw me doing a warmup lap of half the gym while flicking my feet outwards on every step, & informed me that such was not good for my kidney. |

Again I felt tired; today was second hot day in a row weather-wise. But after a young man turned on one of the big fans in the gym, the gym cooled down considerably. There was clearly a problem, on the 3rd kick of the run, which is executed with the right foot: I found this kick to be difficult to do while implementing the AF1+ method utilized this segment. Even when the miskicks on the 3rd kick did not in and of themselves result in the run being scored as a failure, they caused miskicks on the subsequent 4th kick of the run which is executed with the left foot. The runs this segment were longer than the runs yesterday. During this segment, the typical run covered 22' from the first kick to the 5th kick; there were lots of long runs that covered on average about 25' from the first kick to the 5th kick. Again, did P6.1-5T-Reverse-NS.
At Waltham Y. EARPLUGS in both ears. Two segments done today. Woke up today at approx 9:30 AM, after having had approx 8 hours sleep. Had approx 12 oz coffee/coconut-palm-sugar/halfnhalf from approx noon to 2:00 PM. The coffee is the only thing I ate or drank prior to the practice today--I was "roughin'" it. Today was different than usual, I had no water before the first segment, or during the first segment, or during the second segment; the only water I had was about 5 oz in between the first and second segments (filtered water from the Y water-fountain). I implemented the same method (non-AF1) during two segments in a row. The length of the successful runs from 1st kick to 5th kick ranged from 13-29'; the average run covered 22'; there were lots of long 22-26' runs; the ball as usual was kept off the ground and close to the body from the first kick to the 5th kick. Many runs combined together: length of greater than 22', excellence in terms of angle of turns and adherence to the pathway marked by the cones, and extreme speed. I felt that I improved performance today by re-introducing a mental-discipline I had previously resolved upon but forgotten: to, right before the start of a run, mentally concentrate on doing the first two kicks of the run well. The level of heat and humidity in the gym seemed perfect right before I started the segments; but quickly they gym began to seem to be too hot and too humid. Today I update my soccer log, adding a couple of new entries for May 26.

Successes/attempts rate on first 10 attempts: 90%(there was one bad first kick during the first 10 attempts); Quality of first 10 successful runs: excellent; speed of first 10 successful runs:very fast+. Overall quality of successful runs: excellent; overall speed of successful runs: very fast++. There were 5 missed attempts; during this segment there were 11 bad kicks on the first kick of the runs. During this segment, the length of the successful runs ranged from 13-29'; the average run covered 22' from the first kick to the 5th kick; there were lots of long 22-26' runs. The striking thing today, especially during this second segment was: the long number of runs that were excellent or excellent+ in quality, and also very fast+ or very fast++ in speed, and also covered 22' or more in terms of distance measured odometer-style. IMHO these runs were impressive things of beauty, like a well-formed sleek racecar--I looked sort of like a skier, body swaying this way or that dependent on the direction of the turn, the speed of the runs was incredible given the sharp turns, & the ball being touched on every pace while kept off the ground. During this segment, I had to first move to the near side of the gym, and then back to the far side of the gym, because of the Y-staff's activities with kids. The second half of this segment, was done in the near half of the gym, where there were three teen-age young men playing basketball, and a couple of Y-staff sitting watching who knows what. Yet they all seemed oblivious to the magnificent aerial ball off the ground but touched every step runs I was performing right in front of them. When they asked me to move the second time, I expressed the hope that they would eventually work things out so that I would not have to move twice an hour to stay out of their way. Then one of the Y-staff, who looks like Britney Spears' hypothetical sister who is almost-as-good-looking as Britney Spears, said, ' he's not that bad ' (with regards to my undeserved and over-persecuted reputation for troublemaking that is based on hyper-reactions to trivial incidents). I felt like the people at the Y & many others in the area, approach life by way of a childish checklist of do's and don'ts that has resulted in them under-rating important matters. They seem to think that following a simple script while coaching kids, while shouting alot, is the equivalent of being some kind of Helen-Keller. They seem to think that simply because they can do the job they are doing better than person X because they have had time to get used to the job, that means person X of course could not do the same job better than them if he was given time to get used to the job. On the way home I was driving north on Lexington St., a two-lane road; I came to a stop with my left-turn signal on, to turn left into the Burger King. A man in a huge dark blue SUV behind me started honking when I did this; I lookeed at him, he was waving his hands and his face had a pained expression on it. He had short dark slick hair, a clean-shaven white face, huge dark sunglasses, looked overweight. I had a perfect right to turn left into the Burger King.

At Oak Square Y. EARPLUGS in both ears. Two segments done today. Woke up today at approx 11:30 AM, after having had approx 8 hours sleep. Had approx 12 oz coffee/coconut-palm-sugar/halfnhalf @ approx 12:30 PM. Then at Approx 6:15 PM had Boston Kreme Donut, small bag potato chips, and 12 oz of same coffee mix again. That was all I had today before the practice, aside from a little water, so you could say that again, I was "roughin'" it. Had some distilled water prior to during and in between the two segments. I implemented the same method (AF1) during two segments in a row. The length of the successful runs from 1st kick to 5th kick ranged from 13-29'; the average run covered 22'; there were some long 22-26' runs; the ball as usual was kept off the ground and close to the body from the first kick to the 5th kick. A considerable number of runs combined together: length of greater than 22', excellence in terms of angle of turns and adherence to the pathway marked by the cones, extreme speed (very fast++ speed rating), a successes/attempts percentage greater than 90%, and a successes per minute rate of approx 1.50 per minute. The P6.1-5T-Reverse-NS done today involves flipping the ball up with the left foot, and then kicking it forwards with the right foot. Today I found that the ball being flipped by the left foot forwards and up at a slight angle sideways towards the right, works better than the ball being flipped by the left foot straight ahead and up. Today and yesterday also the second segment combined long runs, an overall 'excellent' rating for direction & angle, and a very fast ++ speed rating. After the workout I realized how close I am to being a soccer god; and I felt a little depressed. It's sad when persons are subjected to injustice. I felt as if it has been an injustice, that the man who went on to become a soccer deity, was, before he became a soccer deity, treated harshly in social and economic terms. I did a lot of running around in my car and on foot during the day dealing with a car registration renewal, and the photo in the replacement driver's license was unflatteringly unrealistic; but such did not prevent a good performance in the evening. It was a beautiful evening climate-wise outdoors, but the heat and humidity in the gym were too much for my tastes.

This reduced the length of the runs and the speed of the runs. Before the segment started, the nice young black man in dress clothes and a tie (every Y seems to have one), ordered a couple of teenage basketball players who were cramping my space to move to the other basket which was empty.

The teen-age boys were dutiful with regards to staying out of my way and not knocking the cones I use for my practices out of place. Every time they knocked a cone out of place they would attempt to put it back into place unless I told them I'd do it myself. This segment was not constricted space-wise like the previous segment. This segment, for the first time in a long time I put body-force into the first kick, moving the body forwards during the first kick, such seemed to produce good results today. This has to do with the fact that when the P6.1-5T-Reverse-NS is executed, the left foot rolls the ball back, flips it up, & then the right foot is used for the first kick of the run; whereas with the P6.1-5T-NS, the left foot rolls the ball back, the left foot flips the ball up, and then the left foot kicks the ball for the first kick of the run.

5/28 General Notes re practices today |
Today, changed to doing P6.1-5T-NS.
At Waltham Y. EARPLUGS in both ears. Two segments done today. Woke up today at approx 1:30 PM, after having had approx 8 hours sleep (was up all night). Had approx 12 oz coffee/coconut-palm-sugar/halfnhalf @ approx 2:30 PM. That was all I had today before the practice,so you could say that again for the 3rd day in a row, I was "roughin'" it. Had some distilled water prior to during and after first segment; 'Energy' type 'Glaceau Vitaminwater' before & during 2nd segment. I implemented the same method (no AF1) during two segments in a row. The main point of the day today was that theno AF1 method was modified through the implementation of "Ankle-Force-Minimization" (AFM). I forced myself to minimize the use of the ankle, because I had noticed when doing the P6.1-5T-Reverse-NS the previous couple of days, that the left-foot (I'm left-footed) had been producing many excellent kicks with use of ankle-force nonexistent or minimized. The P6.1-5T-NS done today involves flipping the ball up with the left foot, and then kicking it forwards with the left foot (roll-back, flip-up, kick all done with left). Today I found that putting body-force into the first kick with the left-foot, & moving the body forwards during the first kick with the left foot, helped me to imitate the left-footed style I was using when doing the P6.1-5T-Reverse-NS, because it helped me to get the ball in the same position it was in when I was kicking it with the left foot on the 2nd kick of the P6.1-5T-Reverse-NS. All day I was at the start of each run, focused on the first two kicks of the runs being done well, lots of mental and physical attention was put into the first two kicks of the runs. The length of the successful runs from 1st kick to 5th kick ranged from 15-26'; the average run covered 21'; there were a good number of 22-26' runs; the ball as usual was kept off the ground and close to the body from the first kick to the 5th kick. Many runs combined together: length of greater than 21', excellence+ in terms of angle of turns and adherence to the pathway marked by the cones, and extreme speed (very fast++ speed rating). Last time (5/23) I did the P6.1-5t-NS drill which I did today, the quality of the segments was rated as excellent and very-good to excellent; the speed of the segments was rated as very-fast+, and very-fast to very-fast+. Today doing the P6.1-5t-NS the quality of the segments was rated as excellent+, and excellent; the speed of the segments was rated as very-fast+, and very-fast+ also for the second segment. Today my feeling was that the speed and the quality were dramatically superior compared to 5/23. Thus my judgment is that today I succeeded in quickly and effectively implementing the Ankle-Force-Minimization (AFM) modification, result being improved quality and speed during the successful runs. Whereas on 5/23 when I did the P6.1-5t-NS drill, the number of successful runs per minute was 1.11 over two segments, today doing P6.1-5t-NS the number of successful runs per segment was 1.41 over two segments. It was almost a great afternoon climate-wise outdoors, but a little too hot. Indoors I found conditions to be too humid and too warm.

The goals of this segment: achieve a high number of successful runs per hour; achieve a high successes/attempts percentage.
Successes/attempts rate on first 10 attempts: 70%; Quality of first 10 successful runs: very good (there were 2 bad first kicks during the first 10 attempts); speed of first 10 successful runs: very fast. Overall quality of successful runs: excellent+; overall speed of succesful runs: very fast+. There were 15 missed attempts. During this segment there were 10 bad kicks on the first kick of the runs. During this segment, the length of the successful runs ranged from 15-26'; the average run covered 21' from the first kick to the 5th kick; there were a considerable number of long 22-26' runs. During the second half of the segment, directional excellent and speed became goals also, in addition to the pre-declared goals. The ankle-force-minimization (AFM) innovation produced the natural initial increase in failures one expects with such innovations, but it also produced directional excellence and speed. Early in the segment I noticed, that putting body-force into the 1st kick with the left-foot, produced ball-position during the the 2nd kick, similar to the ball position during the 2nd kick with the left-foot, when P6.1-5T-Rev-NS was being done. So I stayed with body-force & body-movement-forwards during the 1st kick for most of the segment. This because the point of the ankle-force-minimization (AFM) modification is that the right-foot (2nd kick when P6.1-5T-NS is done) should learn to kick like the left-foot (2nd kick when P6.1-5T-Rev-NS is done). Sharing my half of the gym with me: apparently oblivious boys, teenagers, & men.

During this segment I shared the gym with a seemingly oblivious young white male adult setting up a punching bag for boxing practice by hanging it from the bars holding up a basketball hoop.
