Drill WC06/10-P6.1-5T-NS-IM, Touch ball every step with inward changes of direction

P6.1-5T-NS-IM is the same as P6.1-5T-NS, in terms of directional movement, except the footwork is reversed so that the kicks send the ball inwards towards the center of the body. It involves the ball flipped up with the left foot and kicked forward with the right foot, approx 4.5 feet on R1; the ball kicked at a 90 degree angle approx 4.5' to the right with the left foot on L2; the ball kicked at a 90 degree angle to the left approx 4.5' with the right foot on R3; the ball kicked at a 90 degree angle to the right approx 4.5' with the left foot on L4; the ball touched or shot or passed on R5. The ball is kept close to the body but off the ground the entire time, and kicked on every step; there are no steps between kicks. There are no skips between steps in the NS (No Skips) version. The blue and wiggly line in the graphic represents the usual location of the gym curtain.

Drill WC06/10-P6.1-5T-Reverse-NS-IM, Touch ball every step with inward changes of direction

P6.1-5T-Reverse-NS-IM is the same as P6.1-5T-Reverse-NS, in terms of directional movement, except the footwork is reversed so that the kicks send the ball inwards towards the center of the body. It involves the ball flipped up with the left foot and kicked forward with the left foot, approx 4.5 feet on L1; the ball kicked at a 90 degree angle approx 4.5' to the left with the right foot on R2; the ball kicked at a 90 degree angle to the right approx 4.5' with the left foot on L3; the ball kicked at a 90 degree angle to the left approx 4.5' with the right foot on R4; the ball touched or shot or passed on L5. The ball is kept close to the body but off the ground the entire time, and kicked on every step; there are no steps between kicks. There are no skips between steps in the NS (No Skips) version. The blue and wiggly line in the graphic represents the usual location of the gym curtain.

Understanding the stats table below: Stats are for me, David Virgil Hobbs.      R2/L2 Bod Pos: Whether the body was in an upright, medium or crouched position on the second kick of the run.       L1R1 Type: Whether I emphasized leg-power or body-power on the first kick of the runs. L means leg power emphasized; B=body power emphasized on first kick.       Style: AF1 means--during the kicks there is a deliberate attempt to involve all parts of the body in the kick.      Good Runs: total number of successful or 'good' runs during practice segment. A successful/good run involves: ball kept off ground from first to last touch; prescribed pattern of ball/footwork movement approximately adhered to.      Minutes: How many minutes it took to achieve the number of successful/good runs recorded. This does not count time lost due to interruptions etc.      Good Runs/Minute: The number of good runs divided by the number of minutes.      Pattern: The name of the pattern that was run during the segment, & a graphic of the pattern run during the segment.

General Notes re practices today
Two segments of P6.1-5T-NS utilizing AF1.

At Waltham Y. EARPLUGS in both ears. Woke up today at approx 10:30 AM, after having had approx 6 hours sleep. Had approx 12 oz coffee/maple-syrup/halfnhalf from approx 11:30 AM to 1:00 PM; ate two slices of pizza @ approx 345 PM. That and a little water was all I had today before the practice. Had some distilled water prior to during and after first segment.

Today the AF1 method was modified through the implementation of "Ankle-Force-Minimization" (AFM).

Again, all day I was at the start of each run, focused on the first two kicks of the runs being done well, lots of mental and physical attention was put into the first two kicks of the runs.

The length of the successful runs from 1st kick to 5th kick ranged from 15-29'; the average run covered 21'; there were a few 22-29' runs; the ball as usual was kept off the ground and close to the body from the first kick to the 5th kick.

Yet again, many runs combined together: length of greater than 21', excellence+ in terms of angle of turns and adherence to the pathway marked by the cones, and extreme speed (very fast++ speed rating).

Today for the first time I judged a segment running the P6.1-5t-NS pattern to be "very fast++" in terms of speed.

5/26 I added two entries to my Soccer Log regarding how the P6.1-5t-NS and P6.1-5t-Reverse-NS patterns can be angled horizontally at angles different from those portrayed in the graphic representations of these drills. 5/28, I added an entry regarding my progress in speed and quality of runs from 4/23-5/28.

The temp and the humidity in the gym felt idyllically pleasant before I began exerting myself. After about ten minutes of exercise the temp & the humidity in the gym felt too hot and too humid. It was too sunny and hot outdoors.

Yesterday on TV, Suzie Orman looked into the camera and said, 'you need a vacation'; I felt like she was talking to me. Today marked the 8th day (May 22-29) in a row involving 2 segments of P6.1-5t-NS or P6.1-5t-Reverse-NS; before that I did 3 segments on May 21; so my last day off was May 20.

General Notes re practices today
Two segments of the new, never-done-before, P6.1-5T-NS-IM drill, utilizing no AF1. This drill done today is graphically described top of this page. It involves predominance of the left foot and inwards turns on the kicks, it is P6.1-5T-NS with the footwork reversed.

Imaginatively speaking, the drill done today constitutes the beginning of the snapping of the hinge that closes the trap thus winning the battle; the more difficult art of kicking the ball at a 90 degree angle OUTWARDS has already been mastered.

At Waltham Y. EARPLUGS in both ears. Woke up today at approx noon, after having had approx 7 hours sleep. Had approx 12 oz coffee/cane-sugar/halfnhalf (all organic) from approx 12:30 to 2:00 PM. Had approx 48 oz distilled water prior to during and after first segment.

Again, all day: I was at the start of each run, focused on the first two kicks of the runs being done well, lots of mental and physical attention was put into the first two kicks of the runs; my goals were high number successful runs per hour, high successes/attempts percentage, high quality, and high speed.

Both segments today were judges as "excellent" for quality and "very fast+" for speed with regards to the runs that were successes.

The length of the successful runs from 1st kick to 5th kick ranged from 15-29'; the average run covered 20-21'; there were some 22-29' runs; the ball as usual was kept off the ground and close to the body from the first kick to the 5th kick.

Some of the runs combined together: length of greater than 21'; quality rated as excellence+ (angle of turns and adherence to the pathway marked by the cones); and extreme speed (very fast++ speed rating).

5/27-5/30 I added three entries to my Soccer Log regarding: quality & speed ratings, 4/23/11 to 5/28/11 (5/29 entry); New P6.1-5T-Reverse-NS-IM and P6.1-5T-NS-IM Drills (5/30 entry); and, Predictions 4/15 & reality 5/30 (2nd 5/30 entry).

The temp and the humidity in the gym felt pleasant before I began exerting myself. After about ten minutes of exercise the temp & the humidity in the gym felt too hot and too humid. It was too hot outdoors.

P6.1-5T-NS-IM

The goals of this segment: achieve a high number of successful runs per hour; achieve a high successes/attempts percentage; achieve high quality; achieve high speed.

1st 10 attempts-- Successes/attempts rate: 50%; Quality of successful runs: very good to excellent; speed of successful runs: very fast to very fast+; number of miskicks on 1st kicks of runs: 3.

Overall-- quality of successful runs: excellent; speed of successful runs: very fast+. Failed attempts: 25; bad kicks on first kick of runs: 18.

During this segment, the length of the successful runs ranged from 15-29'; the average run covered 21' from the first kick to the 5th kick; there were some long 24-29' runs.

During this segment, I noticed that skill in this drill seems based on: angle at which the foot hits the ball; ankle-flip-force-minimization; and, position of non-kicking foot when kicking foot strikes ball.

Oblivious persons sharing my half of the gym with me sometimes: I was alone on my side of the gym.

The goals of this segment: achieve a high number of successful runs per hour; achieve a high successes/attempts percentage; achieve high quality; achieve high speed.

1st 10 attempts-- Successes/attempts rate: 70%; Quality of successful runs: excellent; speed of successful runs: very fast+; number of miskicks on 1st kicks of runs: 1.

Overall-- quality of successful runs: excellent; speed of successful runs: very fast+. Failed attempts: 12; bad kicks on first kick of runs:6.

During this segment, the length of the successful runs ranged from 15-26'; the average run covered 20' from the first kick to the 5th kick; there were some long 21-26' runs.

This segment it seemed, that concentrating on achieving high quality runs (well-angled & directionally on target), naturally led to a high success/attempts percentage and also high speed runs.

General Notes re practice today

Today I increased the amount of written note-taking & stats-keeping during the segment; hence this 6/1 report contains an unusually high level of such detail .

Today I did the 3rd segment I've ever done of the P6.1-5T-NS-IM drill; today I utilized the AF1 method. This drill done today is graphically described top of this page. It involves predominance of the left foot and inwards turns on the kicks, it is P6.1-5T-NS with the footwork reversed.

At Waltham Y. EARPLUGS in both ears. Woke up today at approx 12:30 PM, after having had approx 6 hours sleep. Had approx 12 oz coffee/cane-sugar/halfnhalf (all organic) from approx 1:00 to 2:30 PM. Had approx 16 oz distilled water prior to & during the segment done today. Had for about the fifth day in a row, nothing to eat between waking up and start of practice.

During the segment: I was at the start of each run, focused on the first two kicks of the runs being done well; my goals were high number successful runs per hour, & high quality.

The segment done today, I judged as "excellent" for quality and "very fast+ to very fast++" for speed (looking at the runs that succeeded).

The length of the successful runs from 1st kick to 5th kick ranged from 18-26'; the average run covered 22'; after successful run #16, there were 11 runs of 24-26' in length; the ball as usual was kept off the ground and close to the body from the first kick to the 5th kick.

After successful run #16, I recorded with pen on paper, that 7 of the runs combined together: length of greater than 21'; quality rated as excellent+ (angle of turns and adherence to the pathway marked by the cones); and extreme speed (very fast++ speed rating).

There were also 7 runs of 18-21' in length rates as excellent+ in terms of quality & very fast++ in speed.

The temp and the humidity in the gym felt too hot and humid even before I began exercising. It was too hot outdoors.

P6.1-5T-NS-IM

The goals of this segment: achieve a high number of successful runs per hour; achieve high quality.

1st 10 attempts-- Successes/attempts rate: 80%; Quality of successful runs: excellent; speed of successful runs: very fast+; number of miskicks on 1st kicks of runs: ZERO.

Overall-- quality of successful runs: excellent; speed of successful runs: very fast+ to very fast++. Failed attempts: 11; bad kicks on first kick of runs: ONLY 2.

During this segment, the length of the successful runs ranged from 18-26'; the average run covered 22' from the first kick to the 5th kick; after successful run #16, there were 11 long 24-26' runs.

After successful run #16, I kept a written score re length, quality and speed for every successful run. Previously I stored such info in my mind, & wrote it down whenever the total of successes+failures reached a multiple of 10.

I estimate this increased data recording increases time required to complete a segment such as this: by 12 minutes if subtotals are not calculated every 10 successes/failures; and by by 27 minutes if in addition, subtotals are calculated every 10 successes/failures.

Today, where very fast+ = 4, & very fast++ = 5, my average speed was 4.47, between very fast+ & very fast++.

Where in terms of quality excellent = 3, & excellent+ = 4, the average run today rated a 3.2 in terms of quality.

During about the second half of the segment, the young black man who acts as a basketball tutor for the grade-school white boys, was the other person in the gym, he was sitting on a bleacher, sometimes he was on the cell phone. He was apparently oblivious to my theatrical heroics. Then the parents of a boy he tutors in basketball (the parents of the boys he tutors seem to really like him) & the boy were talking to him, he was still sitting in the same place. I had both my earplugs deep in my ears, but I either heard the basketball-tutor, or imagined I heard the basketball-tutor, say (re me) "he's dead serious...he keeps the ball low..."

General Notes re practice today

Today I attained to quality and speed better than ever for drills such as the one done today.

Today again I kept written notes regarding every run.

Today I did the 4th segment I've ever done of the P6.1-5T-NS-IM drill; today I utilized the no AF1 method.

Had 42 oz distilled water prior to & during the segment done today. Had for about the 6th day in a row, nothing to eat between waking up and start of practice.

During the segment: I was at the start of each run, focused on the first two kicks of the runs being done well; my original goals were high number successful runs per hour, & high quality; about half way through the segment, an additional goal became high speed.

Last night I had what was for me a huge meal of lots of barbecued ribs and french fries; as a result I felt sluggish from yesterday evening to practice time this afternoon. The evening prior to today's practice, and also the morning prior to today's practice, I was convinced that the speeds would be slow today; but somehow my body woke up and the speeds were the fastest ever doing this kind of drill.

The segment done today, overall I judged as "excellent+" for quality and "very fast++" for speed (looking at the runs that succeeded). This based on written notes taken re every attempt, especially every successful attempt.

Today I added a new excellence rating, x++, because I felt some of the runs today were better than the x+ which has been the highest quality rating so far. And today I added a new speed rating, very fast+++, because I felt some of the runs today were faster than very fast++ which has been the highest speed rating so far.

The length of the successful runs from 1st kick to 5th kick ranged from 18-26'; the average successful run covered 22'; there were 22 successful runs of 24-26' in length; the ball as usual was kept off the ground and close to the body from the first kick to the 5th kick.

There were 17 runs rated as x+ for quality, & very fast++ for speed; these averaged 21 feet in length. There were 10 runs rated as x++ for quality, & very fast++ for speed; these averaged 24 feet in length. There were 6 runs rated as x++ for quality, & very fast+++ for speed; these averaged 22 feet in length.

We've seen the best soccer dribblers in the world--their professional, majestic sharply angled turns, very quickly paced, tightly controlled. Today I was like that, except compared to the top pros, my turns were sharper, I was faster, the ball was more tightly controlled. Fact is, when there is sufficient skill in keeping the ball off the ground, the speed is greater, the turns sharper, the control is tighter ( a ball kept about 9 inches above the ground most of the time, is closer to the foot than a ball rolling on the ground, because most of the time the feet of a running body are a few inches above the ground).

The temp outdoors felt too cool. Indoors, before the practice it felt ok temp wise but too humid. After the practice got started, it was too hot and humid in the gym.

Original goals of this segment: achieve a high number of successful runs per hour; achieve high quality. About half way through the segment, achieving high speed became a goal also.

1st 10 attempts-- Successes/attempts rate: 90%; Quality of successful runs: excellent (3.1 where 3=excellent, 4=excellent+); speed of successful runs: very fast+ (4.3 where 4=very fast+, 5=very fast++); number of miskicks on 1st kicks of runs: 1.

Overall-- quality of successful runs: excellent+ (3.8, where 3=excellent, 4=excellent+); speed of successful runs: very fast++ (4.6, where 4=very fast+, 5=very fast++). Failed attempts: 17; bad kicks on first kick of runs: 10.

During this segment, the length of the successful runs ranged from 18-26'; the average run covered 22' from the first kick to the 5th kick; there were 22 long 24-26' runs.

This segment, like yesterday, I kept a written score re length, quality and speed for every successful run. I estimate that: keeping a written record of each run used up 14.5 minutes of time; having to draw scoresheets as page after page got filled used up 8 minutes; trips to the bathroom used up 5 minutes; and other delays took up 1.5 minutes.

In my half of the gym during the segment, there were a few oblivious persons: teen-age males & females; boys and girls; and adult males and females.

General Notes re practice @ Oak Sq Y

Again I kept written notes regarding every run.

Today I did the 1st segment I've ever done of the P6.1-5T-Reverse-NS-IM drill; today I utilized the no AF1 method. This drill done today is graphically described top of this page. It involves predominance of the right foot and inwards turns on the kicks, it is P6.1-5T-Reverse-NS with the footwork reversed.

At Oak Square Y. EARPLUGS in both ears. Woke up today at approx 3:30 PM, after having had approx 8 hours sleep (it was very cool all day temp-wise, making it tempting to catch up on sleep). Had approx 12 oz coffee/cane-sugar/halfnhalf (all organic) from approx 4:00 to 5:30 PM. Had 40 oz distilled water prior to & during the segment done today. Hence for about the 7th day in a row, had nothing to eat between waking up and start of practice.

During the segment: I was at the start of each run, focused on the first two kicks of the runs being done well; my original goals were high number successful runs per hour, & high quality; about half way through the segment, an additional goal became high speed.

The segment done today, overall I judged as "excellent+" for quality and "very fast+" for speed (quality & speed of the runs that succeeded). This based on written notes taken re every attempt, especially every successful attempt. I was impressed by the large number of very high quality, ultra-fast runs during the second half of the segment; my ability to deliberately increase speed; my ability to for the sake of speed, sacrifice a little of the successes/attempts percentage, without allowing the successes/attempts percentage to fall too low.

The length of the successful runs from 1st kick to 5th kick ranged from 15-29'; the average successful run covered 22'; there were 24 successful runs of 24-29' in length; the ball as usual was kept off the ground and close to the body from the first kick to the 5th kick.

There were 10 runs rated as x+ for quality, & very fast++ for speed; these averaged 23 feet in length. There were 19 runs rated as x++ for quality, & very fast++ for speed; these averaged 21 feet in length. There was 1 run rated as x++ for quality, & very fast+++ for speed; this run was 24 feet in length. In retrospect, I suspect that more runs should have been rated as very fast+++ for speed; but since today was the first segment ever done of P6.1-5T-NS-IM I was reluctant to rate runs as at very fast+++.

This morning, I was wearing earplugs and the volume of the TV was down; but I thought I heard the WBZ TV announcer David Wade say, 'don't forget to kill Pele'. I felt as if he was talking to me (he did'nt literally mean murder, seemed an allusion to my 'dead-serious' style of practice). A few years ago, for a few years I developed a habit of reading off speeches into the TV station answering machines. Seems the TV stations have some mysterious way of watching what goes on inside some of the YMCAs through cameras.

There are three basketball baskets in each half of the gym at the Oak Square Y; this evening, the basket in the area where I usually practice was pulled up so as to be unusable.

During the practice, I shared the gym with about eight teenage males, blacks and whites. The first half of the practice they did something I have never seen at the Y's: they had a 'dead-serious' one-on-one tournament, winner stays on court. The black man in dress clothes who works at the Y was being friendly with them. At one point, I think he said "he's you're bro"!, meaning I was a type of brother to them. This evening the boys were not eager to put my cones back in place after they knocked them out of the way during the basketball. After I finished my practice and was totalling up the scores, a black teenager kicked one of my cones out of the way; then he repeatedly apologized to me.

Seems when I am practicing in a side-basket area, what would work best would be if none of my cones were beyond the three-point line of the middle basket, but that could cause me to be cramped for space, long runs could be inhibited.

After the practice in the locker room, the East Asian teenage male who had warned me about the alleged danger to my kidneys inherent in flicking my ankles outwards, reached his fist out to me; after a fraction of a second I realized this was a greeting and that I was supposed to reciprocate by touching his fist with my fist and so I did.

The temp outdoors felt cool. Indoors, before the practice it felt ok temp & humidity-wise. After the practice got started, it felt a little too warm in the gym.

General Notes re practice @ Waltham Y

Detailed notes re performance were not kept today.

Today I did the 2nd segment I've ever done of the P6.1-5T-Reverse-NS-IM drill; today again, I utilized the no AF1 method. This drill done today is graphically described top of this page. It involves predominance of the right foot and inwards turns on the kicks, it is P6.1-5T-Reverse-NS with the footwork reversed.

EARPLUGS in both ears. Woke up today at approx 3:00 PM, after having had approx 6 hours sleep. Had approx 12 oz coffee/cane-sugar/halfnhalf (all organic) from approx 4:00 to 6:00 PM. Had 14 oz distilled water prior to & during the segment done today.

During the segment: I was at the start of each run, focused on the first two kicks of the runs being done well; my goals were high number successful runs per hour, & high success/attempts percentage.

I did not keep track of the quality, speed or length of the runs today.

Yesterday, my goals were: high number of successes per minute, quality, and speed--the successes/attempts percentage was 77%. Today, my goals were: high number of successes per minute, high successes/attempts percentage--the successes/attempts percentage today was 87%. The speed and quality of the runs was definitely better yesterday.

Yesterday I attained a high quality rating doing the P6.1-5T-Reverse-NS-IM but I did not achieve a high successes/attempts percentage, or a very fast ++ speed rating.

Seems to me that next my goals doing the P6.1-5T-Reverse-NS-IM drill done today should be: speed by itself; and, a combination of speed & a high successes/attempts percentage.

When I was asleep prior to today's practice, I had another dream about soccer. In the dream:

Me and about 20 of the best soccer players of all-time were out on the Midway in Hyde Park Chicago, playing a soccer game. It was almost night outside but there was a slight amount of daylight. The goals we were using were a little smaller than normal. I started out playing goalie. Two players on the other team came at me, there were no defenders between me and them. I rushed the player with the ball, and at the last moment veered away to my left to block the pass I anticipated he would attempt; I succeeded in blocking the pass with my feet (I was outside the goalie-area). I dribbled through the defenders, keeping the ball on the ground, with ease when I wanted to, because my ball control was tight, my speed was fast, & my turns were sharp (I felt as I did the good day playing with the Brandeis-student types). In one incident, Gary Liniker was about ten yards away from me. In the dream he was tall, had bushy dark-brown hair, and wore big spectacles. I chipped a pass to him over a defender, and he volleyed the ball into the net for a goal. In another incident, I was dribbling through the defenders with the ball on the ground, and I felt frustrated because it was difficult to dribble throughthem and at the same time be visually aware of where my team-mates were. I shouted at them, telling them that: they should make noises so I could tell where they were; and, they should position themselves in places where it was easy for me to see them. In another incident someone passed me the ball, it sailed through the air at my shins, I did not trap it correctly, and it bounced away to a defender; after this I suspiciously checked the ball and found that at that particular point in time it looked deformed; the ball looked and felt like a 'gulab-jamun' asian-Indian desert, whose spherical structure has been distorted on one side.

Returning to reality, the temp outdoors felt neither cool or warm but a little humid. Indoors, before the practice it felt a little humid.

General Notes re practice @ Waltham Y

I took written notes every ten successes/failures; last 10 runs, I took written notes after every run .

Today I did 1.6 segments of the P6.1-5T-Reverse-NS-IM drill; I utilized the AF1 method. This drill done today is graphically described top of this page. It involves predominance of the right foot and inwards turns on the kicks, it is P6.1-5T-Reverse-NS with the footwork reversed.

EARPLUGS in both ears. Woke up today at approx 2:00 PM, after having had approx 7 hours sleep. Had approx 12 oz coffee/cane-sugar/halfnhalf (all organic) from approx 4:00 to 5:30 PM. Had 30 oz distilled water prior to & during the practice. Hence for about the 8th day in a row, had nothing to eat between waking up and start of practice.

During the practice: I was at the start of each run, focused on the first two kicks of the runs being done well.

Overall today-- quality: "excellent+"; speed: "very fast+ to very fast++" (quality & speed of the runs that succeeded).

The length of the successful runs from 1st kick to 5th kick ranged from 15-26'; the average successful run covered 21'; the ball as usual was kept off the ground and close to the body from the first kick to the 5th kick.

Previously on June 3, I achieved an 'excellent+' rating for quality doing the P6.1-5T-REV-NS-IM drill/pattern. Today June 5, for the first time I achieved a high successes/attempts percentage (during the first segment), & a high successes/attempts percentage combined with a high speed rating of very fast++ (during the 2nd segment), while running the P6.1-5T-REV-NS-IM pattern.

Yesterday my plan was to attain to the coveted very fast++ rating & a high successes/attempts percentage on the P6.1-5T-REV-NS-IM by: doing a segment for which the goals are both a high successes/attempts percentage & high speed; then doing a segment for which the goal is just speed alone.

Today I managed to achieve both a high successes/attempts percentage & also a very fast++ speed rating in the same segment by: first having for goals, high number of successes per minute and also high successes/attempts percentage; and, second having for goals, high number of successes per minute, high successes/attempts percentage, & also speed.

I felt depressed and tired this morning prior to the start of the practice. Waking up late, I've discovered, is almost always depressing but my excuse always is that I'll do better when I practice soccer if I get the extra sleep. I suspect excess of tequila combined with dinner also had a depressing after-effect. Yet I surprised myself in that after about 30 minutes of practice I no longer felt depressed/tired; and, during the second segment, I managed to achieve an overall speed rating of very fast++ (4.9 numerically).

Another thing that depressed me prior to the start of practice: as I was walking past her, a young white adult woman with yellow hair, who had a somewhat large, somewhat beaked nose, was talking to the young adult Haitian woman who is a fixture behind the front lobby at the Waltham Y. The yellow-haired woman had a somewhat wicked/plastic looking smile on her face. She said, "well, I'm ugly" (to me she did not look ugly). I felt that what she was saying was, to paraphrase, "I'm ugly, therefore I promote discrimination against people who are not ugly; since I've declared myself to be ugly, I have a right to promote discrimination against those who are not ugly".

I've noticed that in the area where I live, there are people who describe themselves as ugly who promote discrimination against people who are not ugly; overweight people who promote discrimination against those who are not overweight, etc etc. I suspect this has to do with influential women who posturing as prophetesses promote an excess of self-love.

I used to think that the political left was nice and unselfish. But what I've come to realize: discrimination consists of preferring the less competent to the more competent; the political left represents those who are relatively speaking less competent; the political left discriminates; the political left discriminates against the not-ugly, the not-fat, the educated, the intelligent, persons who seem like they might be connected with right-wing politics (& there are other victims of their discrimination).

The temp outdoors felt cool. Indoors, before the practice it felt ok temp & humidity-wise. After the practice got started, it felt a little too warm in the gym.

During this segment, the length of the successful runs ranged from 15-26'; the average successful run covered 21' from the first kick to the 5th kick.

The quality/speed were inferior when I forgot to implement the AF1 method.

This segment I shared half the gym with about a half dozen boys who seemed to be about junior-high age. They were oblivious to my achievements; they repeatedly kicked one of my marker cones out of the way (even though I was there first before they got there).

Original Goals of this segment: achieve high number of successes per minute; achieve a high successes/attempts percentage. About half-way through the segment, speed became another goal of the segment.

1st 10 attempts-- Successes/attempts rate: 100%; Quality of successful runs: excellent to excellent+ (3.5 where 3=excellent, & 4=excellent+; speed of successful runs: very fast+ to very fast++ (4.5 where 4=very fast+ & 5=very fast++); number of miskicks on 1st kicks of runs: 0.

Overall-- quality of successful runs: excellent+ (4.2, where 4=excellent+, 5=excellent++); speed of successful runs: very fast++ (4.9, where 4=very fast+, & 5=very fast++). Failed attempts: 3; bad kicks on first kick of runs: only 1.

During this segment, the length of the successful runs ranged from 15-24'; the average successful run covered 21' from the first kick to the 5th kick.

This segment I succeeded in combining a high successes/attempts percentage, with a very fast++ speed rating (first time I've ever achieved a very fast++ speed rating doing the P6.1-5T-REV-NS-IM pattern/drill).

During the last 9 runs, I paused after each run to record detailed notes on the run. Amongst the last 9 runs, there were: 2 runs rated as quality excellent++ and speed very fast++; and, 2 runs recorded as quality excellent++ & speed very fast+++.

Although only the last 10 runs were individually recorded for their characteristics in my notebook, I feel confident that the overall speed rating this segment was accurate.

Second half of this segment I shared the gym with a young white adult male Y-staff guy who mounted a ferocious attack on a punching bag; he seemed oblivious to my great achievements.

  Wednesday 6/8
General Notes re practice @ Waltham Y
6/7 I added a June 7 entry to my Soccer Log regarding: Recent History (5/23 to 6/5/11).

Again I kept written notes regarding every run.

Today I did two segments of the P6.1-5T-NS-IM drill; I utilized the AF1 method. This drill done today is graphically described top of this page. It involves predominance of the left foot and inwards turns on the kicks, it is P6.1-5T-NS with the footwork reversed.

I felt I had to return to P6.1-5T-NS-IM because the June 2 performance of P6.1-5T-NS-IM, which attained to a 'very fast ++' speed rating, was at just 78% in terms of successes/attempts. Today the two segments combined were at 90%.

The P6.1-5T-NS-IM is for me naturally clumsy because: it involves the right foot being used on the first kick after the ball is rolled back and flipped up with the left foot (I am left-footed); it involves an inward kick with the left foot on the second kick, which has rarely been practiced.

EARPLUGS in both ears. Woke up yesterday at approx 6:00 PM, after having had approx 7hours sleep; napped from 1:30-2:30 AM today. At approx 345 AM, had sausage egg and cheese sandwich, sausage egg and cheese wrap, hash browned potatoes, 12 oz coffee/cocunut-palm-sugar/halfnhalf (all organic), 6 oz mango nectar. Had 48 oz distilled water prior to & during the practice today.

During the segments: I was at the start of each run, focused on the first two kicks of the runs being done well (this focus allowed me to perform despite my mind being distracted by thoughts re misconduct & injustice); my goals were high number successful runs per hour, & high successes/attempts percentage.

The segments done today, overall I judged as "excellent+ (4.3 numerical)" for quality and "very fast+ (4.3 numerical)" for speed (quality & speed of the runs that succeeded). This based on written notes taken re every attempt, especially every successful attempt.

By way of comparison, the June 2 stats for the P6.1-5T-NS-IM segment: Overall-- quality of successful runs: excellent+ (3.8, where 3=excellent, 4=excellent+); speed of successful runs: very fast++ (4.6, where 4=very fast+, 5=very fast++).

Thus today 6/8 compared to 6/2, we see a rise in the quality rating from 3.8 to 4.3, and a fall in the speed rating, from 4.6 to 4.3.

Seems to me that right now, it would be unwise to attempt segments dedicated to high speed running the P6.1-5T-NS-IM. The P6.1-5T-NS-IM is clumsy because the first and the second kicks in the P6.1-5T-NS-IM have been practiced relatively little. I estimate that the improvement per unit time invested ratio would be best if goals of segments were: high number of successful runs per hour, high successes/attempts percentage, high quality. Prematurely jumping ahead suddenly to segments dedicated to high speed runs, could: impair self-confidence; result in bad habits in terms of technique.

On the other hand, my memory tells me that during the past week or so, there have been successes wherein I surprised myself by maintaining a high percentage while attempting to achieve, and succeeding in achieving, high speeds on the runs.

So next practice I intend to start with a segment dedicated to high successes/attempts percentage, and follow this with a segment dedicated to both the said percentage and also to high speed on the runs.

A wild alternative would be: a segment dedicated to just high speed in and of itself, with no regards to any other possible goal such as successes/attempts percentage or high number of successes per hour.

During the two segments combined: the length of the successful runs from 1st kick to 5th kick ranged from 15-29'; the average successful run covered 21'; there were 19 successful runs of 24-29' in length; the ball as usual was kept off the ground and close to the body from the first kick to the 5th kick.

During the segment, I felt distracted , remembering the 6/5 incident featuring the self-proclaimed 'ugly' woman. I was thinking: my life in the metro area I'm in, has been like watching an endless parade featuring, time after time, the less-qualified person getting the job; it's been like looking at a Heironymous Bosch painting of hell; the universities are the leaders and the metro area the followers in the parade; the universities have led the way by rejecting job applicants as 'overqualified'; if universities refuse to hire college grads, then who do the universities suppose will hire college grads; their promotion of the disemployment of the 'overqualified' is tantamount to declaring that nobody is ever guilty of discrimination in hiring, because discrimination means the rejection of the relatively more qualified persons; rejecting those who have become skilled as 'overqualified', discourages & punishes the attainment of skills; the overall cost/benefit ratio would be superior if nobody was ever rejected as 'overqualified' (if the most competent applicant was hired every time); scientific studies have shown that persons with high IQs perform better in jobs; how is it wisdom, that jobs that involve meeting lots of persons, should be given to the relatively less intelligent & less attractive persons.

But despite the thoughts going through my mind during the practice, I was able to perform decently, because during the first and second kicks of each run, my mind was focused not on social injustice, but on performing the kicks well.

The temp outdoors felt too warm. Indoors, even before the practice started, it felt too warm and humid.

General Notes re practice today @ Oak Square Y

After the Wednesday practice, I had whilst asleep, a dream:

In the dream: I was a Greek god, I was a personification of those skillfully chiseled grayish-whitish statues of muscular Greek male gods. I had the physical appearance, the super-human abilities, and the almost placid, calmly undisturbed by mentally negative reactions to the environment, personality those statues represent. My skin was the color of the whitish stone used in the statues, with shades of gray. I looked like I was about 180 lbs, 6' tall (in reality I am 195 lbs, 5'10" tall)-- I was very muscular looking, there was very little fat on my body, you could see every muscle in my body like you can in the anatomical drawings & paintings; yet I was not still without movement like a statue-- I was in a state of fast powerful graceful movement, running naked in a direction to my left. Waking Note: In real life my skin is not the ultra-thin type skin that reveals every muscle in definition; in real life my body carries a little too much fat which obscures the appearance of muscle definition.

Today, having only speed & successes/minute as goals after the first 10 successes/failures, I attained to quality and speed better than ever for drills such as the one done today.

June 2 like today I ran the P6.1-5T-NS-IM pattern, having speed, successes/minute & quality as goals; June 2, like today, I attained to quality and speed better than ever for such drills (up to June 2).

About half of the 40 attempts today, resulted in runs that were spectacular, runs that were: on average 22' in length, extremely fast, with the turns being very close to exactly 90 degrees as they are supposed to be.

Yet everyone in the gym seemed oblivious to the accomplishment.

'Twas the night before Christmas, and all through the house, not a creature was stirring, not even a mouse'.

Today again I kept written notes regarding every run, like I did on June 2.

Today I utilized the AF1 method, whereas June 2 it was no-AF1.

The P6.1-5T-NS-IM drill done today is graphically described top of this page. It involves predominance of the left foot and inwards turns on the kicks, it is P6.1-5T-NS with the footwork reversed.

EARPLUGS worn in both ears during the practice today.

Woke up today at approx 6:30 PM, after having had approx 6 hours sleep. Had approx 12 oz coffee/coconut-palm-sugar/halfnhalf (all organic) from approx 7:00 to 7:30 PM. Had 16 oz distilled water prior to & during the segment done today. Had nothing to eat between waking up and start of practice.

During the segment: I was at the start of each run, focused on the first two kicks of the runs being done well.

I had been feeling reluctant to run a segment devoted to speed, that at the same time was not devoted to a high successes/attempts rate; I had been thinking: I don't have enough energy to run a segment that strongly emphasizes speed; emphasizing speed will result in humiliating disconcerting failures.

Yet today out of 40 total attempts (not including bad-1st-kick attempts), there were 11 runs (28% of attempts), averaging 22' in length, rated as at x++ for quality & very fast++ for speed; and there were 7 runs (18% of attempts), averaging 22' in length, rated as at x++ for quality & very fast+++ for speed.

On June 2, the number of total attempts (not including bad-1st-kick attempts) was 77, 93% more than today June 10. On June 2, there were 10 runs rated as x++ for quality, & very fast++ for speed (avg length 24'); and there were 6 runs rated as x++ for quality, & very fast+++ for speed (avg length 22').

June 2 the overall successes/attempts percentage was 78%, and the average length of the runs was 22'; today June 10 these figures were 83% & 22'.

Today the length of the successful runs from 1st kick to 5th kick ranged from 18-24'; average successful run covered 22'; ball as usual was kept off the ground and close to the body from the first kick to the 5th kick.

The temperature/humidity felt OK outdoors, OK in the gym before practice started, but after practice started I felt too hot and humid.

I estimate that: keeping a written record of each run used up 7.5 minutes of time.

In my half of the gym during the segment, there were a few apparently oblivious teen-age males.

General Notes re practice today @ Waltham Y

Today, having successes/attempts percentage, speed & successes/minute as goals after the first 10 successes/failures, I (for the second segment in a row) attained to quality and speed better than ever for drills such as the one done today.

June 10, after the first 10 successes/failures, the goals were: high number of successes per hour, & speed. Today June 13, after the first 10 successes/failures, the goals were: high number of successes per hour, speed, AND high successes/attempts percentage.

Today again I kept written notes regarding every run, like I did on June 10.

Today I utilized the AF1 method (same June 10).

The P6.1-5T-NS-IM drill done today is graphically described top of this page. It involves predominance of the left foot and inwards turns on the kicks, it is P6.1-5T-NS with the footwork reversed.

EARPLUGS worn in both ears during the practice today.

Woke up yesterday 6/12 at approx 7:30 PM, after having had approx 7 hours sleep. Had approx 24 oz coffee/coconut-palm-sugar/halfnhalf (all organic) from approx 8:30 PM 5/12 to 7:30 AM 6/13. Had 16 oz distilled water prior to & during the segment done today. Had hash brown potatoes for food appprox 6:30 AM.

During the segment: I was at the start of each run, focused on the first two kicks of the runs being done well.

Today out of 69 total attempts (not including bad-1st-kick attempts), there were 14 runs (20% of attempts), averaging 21' in length, rated as at x++ for quality & very fast++ for speed; and there were 19 runs (28% of attempts), averaging 22' in length, rated as at x++ for quality & very fast+++ for speed.

By way of comparison, June 10: out of 40 total attempts (not including bad-1st-kick attempts), there were 11 runs (28% of attempts), averaging 22' in length, rated as at x++ for quality & very fast++ for speed; and there were 7 runs (18% of attempts), averaging 22' in length, rated as at x++ for quality & very fast+++ for speed.

June 10 the overall successes/attempts percentage was 83%, and the average length of the runs was 22'; today June 10 these figures were 87% & 21'.

Today the length of the successful runs from 1st kick to 5th kick ranged from 13-29'; ball as usual was kept off the ground and close to the body from the first kick to the 5th kick.
